Halloween

Dear Families;

Halloween is quickly approaching.  Our day is going to be busy and fun!  The students are to come to school in costume.  Please remember that no toy weapons are permitted.  Also, avoid scary masks or gruesome costumes.  There will be a Halloween Costume Parade for the primary classes at 1:00pm.

If children wish to take off their costumes, please provide an extra set of clothes.  We will follow the parade by sharing a Halloween snack.  Please send a SMALL amount of one of the following items for our Monster Mix:

Cheerios

Raisons

Dried cranberries

Pretzels

Shreddies

Small gummies

(If your child is allergic to any of the following items please let me know and I will make a batch without the item)

PJs and Pages Morning

On November 1st from 8:45-9:10, join our class to cuddle up and read.  Teddy Bears and blankies are most welcome.  Grandparents, aunts, and uncles and other caregivers welcome too of course!  Feel free to bring a favorite story to share with a friend.

Please read through the letter sent home regarding 'roots of empathy' and send back the consent portion of the letter as soon as possible.  We are very excited to be starting the program on the 29th of October.
regards,
Ms. Rogers

Happy Thanksgiving

I am excited to announce our search for 'gingy' throughout the school was a success!  Special thanks go out to Joanne Tansey for creating our new class mascot 'gingy' and the tasty treats the children received once gingy was discovered back in our classroom.  He was found sitting on my chair reading "The Gingerbread Man" of all the books in the library this is the one he chose!  It was a great end to our IB unit-How we organize ourselves. Children are more familiar with many parts of the school and staff, and have become much more independent since September.  Please check out the bulletin board across from our classroom to see pictures of the children working on missing posters, and examples of those posters that were posted throughout the school.

I hope you all enjoyed our Mr. Turkey poem, the children worked very hard learning this one!

This week we will continue to learn about Autumn as a season, using leaves as a focus. In this unit we will integrate math, art, science and language arts to learn the parts of a leaf, and its growth cycle, continue to differentiate between upper and lower case letters, printing names and words, poems, and use counting with numbers and dots, as well as shapes and colors on a daily basis.

Please remember to return students' folders on Tuesday.

Library is on Wednesday.  Gym is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with family and friends,

Ms. Rogers

The week before Thanksgiving

Hello,

Please ask your child to recite the poem in their folder, we worked on this all week!  Could parents please make sure they return the folders each week.

Look for a Thanksgiving Day poem at the end of the week!

We are exploring the letter D this week, along with a continuation of rhyming.  We explore the D sound and words that begin with D, as well as words that rhyme.  If children make up, or say nonsense words that rhyme, this is perfectly fine as nonsense rhyming introduces the concepts of rhyming.

We are also continuing to explore shapes, colors and patterns.  Encourage your child to explain differences between shapes, or patterns found in everyday life.

Soon we will be completing our first IB unit, 'How we organize ourselves'.  This week we will be continuing to review our knowledge of places within the school, along with faces we know.  On Friday our class will be searching for our missing gingerbread man, which will conclude with a small treat for the class!

Our class will be preparing a special decoration for Thanksgiving Day!  This keepsake has special meaning, children's hands and feet were traced and cut to create a special Thanksgiving Day decoration.

Have a great week!
